1. INTRODUCTION:

Diesel Loco Shed, Visakhapatnam is the largest Diesel loco maintenance depot on Indian Railways with the present fleet of 376 locomotives, including 03 Rail Buses and 86 traction locos. Various types of locomotives are being maintained in this shed for freight, passenger and shunting purpose. The shed has begun its humble journey with a holding of just 13 WDM1 locos on 2nd May 1965 and reached the present premier shed position on Indian Railways. The shed is now having 07 locomotives running in coaching link. The current Diesel freight outage target is 184.4 for Diesel Locos & 47.0 for Electric Locos.

Different environmental friendly measures have been taken by DLS/VSKP, these are:

1.300 KWp solar plant is installed for power supply at shed and working successfully from Mach-18. In addition to 02 nos of 1000 Lts. Of solar water heaters are installed for component cleaning as a part of green energy initiative.

2.The Effluent treatment plant with discharge capacity 10lts/hr. in the shed not only separates the hazardous chemical from the effluents but also saves substantial quantity of water.The treated water is being used for cleaning the locos, loco components and for gardening purpose.

3.Solid waste disposal is carried out at DLS/VSKP through Authorized agency of GVMC, Visakhapatnam and hazardous waste through M/s RamkeyEnviro Engineers Ltd, VSKP which is an authorized agency of APPCB.

4.The shed has got consent for operation (CFO) from AP pollution control board for five years up to 2026.

5.Lots of greeneries have been developed in and around DLS/VSKP through a number of tree plantations.

6.Four nos of RO plants have been installed for providing safe drinking water facilities to staff & officials.

7.Number of safety posters, safety slogans is being displayed& safety seminars are conducted to sensitize the staff and to enhance their safety awareness.

8. Personal protective equipment like helmets, safety shoes, ear plugs, hand gloves, masks etc., are being regularly provided to staff to ensure their safety in work place.      

Certificates Received by Diesel Loco Shed

NABL Certification: Diesel Loco Shed, Visakhapatnam has achieved NABL accreditation for Main Laboratory on 05.10.20. Perhaps DLS VSKP is the first shed in Indian Railways to achieve the certification.

Green Co Certification: DLS/VSKP received GreenCo Silver certification on 24.11.18 from M/s CII. Perhaps DLS/VSKP is the second Diesel Shed in Indian Railways to receive such type of prestigious certificate.

Diesel Loco Shed, VSKP is also undertaking locomotive maintenance works from different Public Sector Units (PSU) in & around Visakhapatnam & thereby able to generate substantial revenue for IR.

INNOVATIONS AND GOOD WORK DONE BY DLS/VSKP:

1.

THIRD EYE FOR LOCO SHUNTERCC Cameras are installed in 20 nos of locomotives till date and all those locos are working in WAT yard. This Camera consists of

1)7 inch T.F.T LCD Monitor, fitted in both control stand.

2)C.C Camera 2 MP 4 ARROY (Pixellens/Night Vision) – 50 to 70Mts.

3)Splitter

4)Digital Video Recorder (D.V.R) with 500 GB HDD for storage upto 20days.

5)Anti pilferage arrangement for C.C Cameras, Display units, Power supply and D.V.R with metal boxes panels provided.

Advantages:

1)With provision of these units, shunter will now able to see clear picture of both Long hood & short hood side seating either on Long hood or short hood as per his convenience.

2)This is helpful to observe activities of points-man along with picture of track.

3)Helpful for checking proper setting of point before proceeding.

4)LP/Shunter can ensure the track and signal of TP for proceeding without leaning towards back and also ensure about the intactness of formation.

5)Helps to reduce derailment, side collision etc. & also in case of any incident data can be analysed due to its storage facility.



















       2. Art by DLS/VSKP with recyclable materials:

a. Sculptures from loco scrap: DLS/VSKP has sent 08 nos of Sculptures made from recyclable materials to 

     HQ fordisplaying GM office on 26.01.2020.


b. The following models are also being prepared for Araku Railway Station.

3. MeD ROBO MADE IN DLS/VSKP




MeD ROBO is fabricated by utilizing different items to facilitate hands free activities inside Railway Central Hospital, Bhubaneswar, Divisional Railway Hospital, Waltair, Sambalpur and Khurda.

   

The above said equipment has been fabricated by utilizing the following items:

1.Remote controlled driving unit

2.Square bars and sheet for fabricating body and Stainless-steel trays.

3.Night vision Camera (2 MPHD) with2 way speaker facility

4.Circuit for sensor-based hand sanitizer unit and thermal scanner.

5.Timer based 8W UVC sanitizer box

6.Corridor/room sanitizer UVC lamp

7.Backup power with inverter.

MeD ROBO is designed and fabricated at DLS/VSKP considering the requirement at Railway Central Hospital, Bhubaneswar, Divisional Railway Hospital, Waltair, Sambalpur and Khurda as per available feasibility of the driving unit.

This equipment has the following features:

(i)Remote control driving unit for movement in all directions by monitoring physically or from mobile or desktop. Can be controlled from 30 - 40 ft.distance.

(ii)Sensor based hand sanitizer unit for hand free hand sanitization.

(iii)Sensor based thermal scanner for taking body temperature.

(iv)UVC sanitizer box to sanitize personal belongings like mobile, spectacle, papers etc.

(v)Remote controlled two UVC lamps (15W) provided in the front pillar of the ROBO for utilizing as corridor/room sanitization.

(vi)2-way device for communicating between patient and Doctor/nursing staff.

(vii)360-degree movable camera that can be controlled through mobile or desktop.

(viii)Stainless steel tray for distributing medicine and food etc.,

This equipment is capable to carry about 15 Kg of items and can be controlled byremote from 30-40 feet distance by seeing its position in a mobile/desktop/physically.The camera having 2-way speaker facility therefore Doctor/nursing staff can interact with the patient and can advise. The movement of camera to view from different angles can be controlled through mobile/desktop.

The available tray can be used for hand free distribution of food, tiffin, medicines and other items as per the requirement of the Hospital.
