ORGANISATIONAL SETUP

GENERAL

      The 446 RKM of Kottavalasa-Kirandul section comprises of difficult terrain with long stretches of tunnels in steep gradients as much as 1 in 60 and 1 in 100 along with curves ranging up to 8°. The section is having a total of 58 nos. tunnels. In K-K line, from Srungavarapu Kota to Similiguda stations, Ananatagirighat section begins and then practically the train ascends to an altitude as high as 998 m at Similiguda station. The only passenger train pair of 1 VK and 2 VK runs in the section under electric traction from 1985.The OHE for about 329 KM is having higher section contact wire of 150 sq. mm. and HDBC catenary.

The electrification work of Kottavalasa-Kirandul (KK line) was completed between 1980-82 in phased manner from Kirandul to Ore Exchange Yard ( of Vishakhapatnam) under the project of WaltairKirandul Railway Electrification. The line was designed for 10 Million Tonnes iron ore transport with 18 Traction substations. There are o7 Railway Traction Substations in Chattishgarh, 07 in Odisha and 10 are in Andhra Pradesh.

      The electrification of Visakhapatnam – Duvvada section was completed during 1997 by Vijayawada- Visakhapatnam RE project. The electrification of Palasa - Visakhapatnam completed during the year 2000-2001 by Bhubaneswar - Visakhapatnam RE project with 03 TSS on main line section of Andhra Pradesh.

The electrification of Singapore Road to Damanjodi is in progress under Railway Electrification organization at Bhubaneswar.

SPECIAL FEATURE OF KK Line (ACTM Vol.I Para-10227)

Waltair -Kirandul section of East Coast Railway is about 471 km long , having large number of tunnels and gradients as high as 1 in 60 and sharp curves of 8 degree . The configuration of traction distribution system in the section is as under:

ØOHE- About 334 km of the section has got 19/2.10 mm HDBC catenary and 150 mm2 contact wire(KTV-SUP& SMLG-DWZ). The tension in catenary is 800 kgf while contact wire has got 1200 kgf tension. And also the nos. of OHE structure per 1KM are 35 as against 18nos. on mainline.

ØThere are 16 TSS in the section where Six adjacent TSSs are connected in parallel to meet the load requirement and maintain voltages within the prescribed limit.
