DEDICATED SERVICE BY ECoR DURING RATH YATRA




East Coast Railway played an active role in transportation of pilgrims and tourists to and from Puri connecting every parts of Orissa including neighboring states. East Coast Railway made special arrangements during the period from Rath Yatra Day to Suna Vesa. Apart from running of Special Trains, Special emphasis had been given for additional booking counters, transit facilities, Cleanliness, Catering & Drinking Water arrangements, Security arrangements and Medical facilities etc. at Puri and at en-route stations.


Railway Renders Pivotal Service during Rath Yatra at Puri_

  A team of railway artisan staff and supervisors of the coaching Depot/Puri are engaged exclusively during the period of Rath Yatra. Their services are utilized for shifting the chariots and its repair before car festival, movement of chariots (Raths) in both car festival and return car festival. Screw Jacks and different Carriage and Wagon Tools are utilized in this work to ensure that there is no damage caused to the wooden parts of the chariot.


Train Operations
 
A total of 225 special trains were run from and to Puri station to different destinations such as Shalimar (Howrah), Jagadalpur, Palasa, Gunupur, Junagarh Road, Sambalpur, Kendujhargarh, Paradeep, Angul, etc.; to clear extra rush of pilgrims in addition to 300 regular trains. Running of Rath Yatra Special Trains in just concluded Rath Yatra, this year is the highest ever Special Trains provided.


Crowd Management

Adequate number of RPF staff and GRP staff were deployed to control the crowd and streamlined the huge crowd at festival shed and Station premises. Separate Entry and Exit gates were made. Three layered entry i.e Ticket Booking, Crowd Control and Regulated Entry. Civil Defence and Scouts and Guides were deputed to manage the crowd also. This was being monitored Round the Clock during Rath Yatra period.


Train Information System/ Enquiry Counters

Additional 04 nos. of Train Enquiry Counters were provided at Puri Railway Station. Two numbers of Child  Help Desks, Four numbers of May I Help You booths, 10 nos. Of Video Walls Displaying Train Related & Passenger Related Information were also provided at Puri Railway Station and Circulating Area. ECoR Yatra App & UTS o­n Mobile App are also put under function for the convenience of Passengers.


Ticket Booking Counter

35 additional booking counters were opened and worked continuously for 24 hours all through the mela period at Puri Railway Station. 28 Additional Counters were also opened at other major Railway stations like Khurda Road, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Bhadrak etc. With an aim to avoid any kind of inconvenience to the Senior Citizens, Divyangjan in purchasing tickets, 10 Nos of Mobile UTS Ticketing Systems were introduced, for the first time, at Puri Railway station during this year Rath Yatra. Apart from this, Mobile Ticket Booking Counters have also been provided at different places.


Pilgrim Waiting Area/Shed

For the convenience of the pilgrims, the total resting area increased to 15000 Sq.mts., including the entire concourse as Rest Shed with the capacity to accommodate 5000 Pilgrims. Apart from this, Tourist Complex was also opened to accommodate 500 Pilgrims. For the convenience of pilgrims 110 nos. Of Toilet facility provided at Mela Shed and Tourist Complex with dedicated Cleaning Staff. 10 nos. Battery Operated Cars were provided for Senior Citizens and disabled people.


Security Arrangements

For the security of the passengers, more than 100 CCTV cameras have been installed along with drone cameras for monitoring security arrangement. For this, Railways have deployed more than 600 RPF personnel and 200 Rail Volunteers for safety & guidance of pilgrims. Apart from this, metal detectors and sniffer dogs were deployed to enhance security measures. Loud hailers were also used by RPF to alert the passengers about drugging, pick-pocketing, chain snatching, etc. in the concourse area and platforms.


Catering & Hospitality

Drinking water facilities were provided at all the water booths at the Station. Additional 30 nos. drinking water taps provided at Concourse Area & Mela Shed. Additional 14 nos of Food Kiosk in Food Court were also provided. Baby feeding items & Diabetic friendly food items was also made available. Free food arranged for 50000 needy pilgrims during this year Rath Yatra were also arranged.


Mobile ATM

02 nos. of Mobile ATM provided at Concourse Area.


Medical Facilities

Three First Aid Post manned by Doctors and Paramedical staff was kept open in the circulating area round-the-clock. About 2500 passengers were treated for minor ailments, such as, headachefever, de-hydration, etc. Also, 02 numbers of Ambulance was also kept in readiness round the clock.
 

Apart from the above, Power supply, water supply, cleanliness and security were maintained round-the-clock without any complaint. Adequate drinking water and plenty of water at festival shed, toilets were ensured round-the-clock. Railways extended and also received wide support and co-operation from State Govt. agencies and NGOs all through the mela period. Railways have expressed their gratitude to State Govt. Police and District Administration authorities for their help.
